Today in our section we will tell you about St. George's Church, which was built in 1905-1907 as a garrison church for military units located in the Bobruisk fortress. With a high degree of probability, it can be argued that St. George's Church was visited during his visit to Bobruisk in 1916 by Tsar Nicholas II.
In 1928, St. George's Church follows the fate of most churches in the territory of the Soviet Union. The domes are thrown off the temple, the bell tower is destroyed, and a sewing production is located in the disfigured building. During the war years, German car repair workshops were located in the temple, and after its completion - a dining room and a library named after him. Lenin.
For almost 70 years, the temple has been in this terrible captivity.
In 1990, the temple building was returned to the faithful and with the blessing of the rector of the temple, Archpriest Gennady Veigo, the restoration plan was drawn up in such a way that the restored temple building repeated the destroyed one even in small details.
In 1995, with the completion of major repair and restoration work on the temple building, an architectural project of a two-story Spiritual and educational center with a room for the sacrament of baptism was created. Since May 1996, its construction has been underway, and on November 1, 1998, the beautiful building of the Spiritual and Educational Center opens its doors.
Now the Spiritual and Educational Center unites not only educational, but also publishing, charitable, missionary, educational and methodological activities.
The center has a Sunday school, the youth center of St. John the Theologian, the sisterhood of St. Juliana Lazarevskaya, a methodical office, and a church library.
The Center coordinates cooperation with executive authorities, education and healthcare, preschool institutions, correctional institutions, military units, conducts seminars and conferences.
All the buildings of the temple complex are painted white, preserving the tradition of naming St. George's Church by the townspeople as the "White Church". The temple is one of the symbols of Bobruisk, its images can be seen on postcards, booklets, photo albums dedicated to the city of Bobruisk.
